Amigos Key Information

  AMIGOS is…

  • a non-profit organization
  • for high school and college youth
  • Travel to Latin American country  for 5-8 week projects.

Projects in:

Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican  Republic, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil 

What it offers you…

·        Spanish Immersion

·        Community Service

·        Youth Leadership

KEY Points

  • Matched with 1 or 2 partners from one other 29 U.S. Amigos chapters
  • Live with a host family
  • Assess community needs
  • Design a CBI (Community Based Initiative)
  • Work with local governmental or non-profit agencies on larger community projects
  • Usually present health-related talks in the schools

Project Supervisor visits weekly to:     

Assess personal health

Assess progress on your CBI

Give advice and support

CBI examples:  soccer field, playground, school mural, community trash cans, computer room, bus stop bench

VOLUNTEER’S COMMITMENT

  • Training twice a month
  • Family Fee of $2100 (Some financial aid may be available based on income)
  • Fundraising (Product sales & donation appeals campaign)
  • Parent must attend a parent meeting once a month
  • Participate in Amigos social gatherings.
